Martin Hayes serves as Managing Director of Trident Marine Managers (Trident), a part of Ryan Specialty Underwriting Managers. Trident is a leading specialty marine and offshore energy Managing General Underwriter serving the needs of the maritime industry in the U.S. with a focus in the Gulf of Mexico.

Martin has 38 years of experience in the specialty insurance industry. Martin joined Trident in 1999 with an initial focus on underwriting marine hull and liability business on behalf of XL Specialty Insurance and later, OneBeacon Insurance Company, along with various Lloyd’s syndicates.  In 2006, Martin was promoted to Executive Vice President at Trident, taking on additional management responsibilities and in 2011, appointed to Managing Director.

Prior to Trident, Martin was with Tower Insurance Services where he served as President, writing predominantly Gulf business for Lloyd’s of London and domestic carriers.

In 1993, Martin relocated to Houston and served as Managing Director of Houston Special Risks, where he underwrote on behalf of two domestic carriers.

Martin started his career at Lloyd’s of London in 1979 at Cooper Gay. Following that position, he moved to Cayzer Steel Bowater in 1985 where he specialized in U.S. Hull and Liability business with Trident as his primary client.
