Derek Pouliot is Chief Reserving Officer of Ryan Specialty Underwriting Managers. Derek was appointed to the role of Chief Reserving Officer for RSUM at the start of 2024, where he is charged with protection of the long-term sustainability of capital for RSUM and protection of satisfactory return on capital for RSUM’s capital trading partners. In this capacity, Derek is responsible for valuation of underwriting results for all business by RSUM, including portfolio analysis, risk modeling, early warning detection, and analytical claims data production and insights.

Derek joined Ryan Specialty in 2019 as an actuarial director in central underwriting and, soon after, assumed the position of SVP and Chief Profitability & Risk Actuary. During his time in central underwriting, Derek led the creation and implementation of the RSUM profitability analysis and played an instrumental role in the establishment and maturation of Geneva Re as a risk bearing instrument supporting business written by RSUM.

Prior to joining Ryan Specialty, Derek held the role of Chief Actuary and Head of Actuarial Function for a leading company in Ireland. Derek holds the Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (‘FCAS’) and Chartered Property & Casualty Underwriter (‘CPCU’) professional designations.
